Sisterhood

Shalom achot! The weather is warmer, the days are longer, it must be June. So soon? Is our Sisterhood year really coming to an end?

It pleases us to report that Selma Shoenfeld is now at home after a stay at the Menorah Home recovering from surgery necessitated from an accidental fall in her home. Pauline Braunstein is at home in Riverdale. Nettie Bernstein, Esther Klein are in their respective homes. Condolences to the family members of Ethel Siegel. To all our members who are currently indisposed and undergoing treatment we sincerely wish a refuah sh’laimah u’mehairah - - a complete and speedy recovery.

June generates joyous news. We are delighted to report that Eunice Simon’s granddaughter Ashley Davenport graduated from New York University Summa Cum Laude. Norma Fried’s granddaughter Allison Rosenthal graduated from Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. Her grandson Todd Weissman is graduating from Queens College. Gwen Rosen’s granddaughter Sari Rosen is graduating from SUNY at New Paltz. Rosalind Dornhelm’s daughter Shoshana is graduating from SUNY at Binghamton. Henrietta Steinhauer’s Grandson Jason is appointed as an archivist at The Library of Congress in Washington D.C.  Grace Salant’s grandson David graduated from Columbia University Phi Beta Kappa, and Summa Cum Laude. Her granddaughter Samantha is graduating from East Brunswick High School with honors.

To the families of our scholars and achievers we extend our wishes of "Mazel Tov" and hope you enjoy much ‘nachat’ as they progress. To the honorees and academic scholars we applaud you and wish you much success in your future endeavors.

The annual Donor Luncheon is June 15, 2010 at Shang Chai Kosher Restaurant on Flatbush Avenue. There’s still some time and some activities which will generate Donor credits.  Please check with Treasurer Elaine Elworth for your Donor points.

Norma Fried is selling Treasure Books for raffle prizes for Donor Luncheon. An ample assortment of all - occasion greeting cards is available from Louise Grinstein-Richman.  Journal chairs Shirley Kaufman and Gwen Rosen report that the Journal is at the printer and will be ready for distribution on June 15, 2010. They wish to thank everyone who cooperated and assisted in collating the Souvenir Journal.

The Nominating Committee presented a slate of Officers of the Board, which was approved with no changes. The voting will take place at our next General meeting on June 1, 2010. Please attend and have your vote count.

At our last meeting, Rabbi Segal addressed us continuing his series of lectures on "Ethics in Action". This was the last installment of his daytime series. We thank Rabbi Segal for all his interesting remarks and for adding a meaningful dimension to our meetings.

Please attend our next meeting on June 1, 2010. Please come early and join us in our Flatbush Female Fitness Frolics with our terrific trainer Renee Bedell. Since this is our last written communication until September 2010, we wish everyone a healthful, happy and restful summer.

B'Shalom
Grace Salant
